Rochester senior Harrison Dunwoody finished fourth in the 60 hurdles in the Small Schools Division at the Hoosier State Relays Indoor State Finals at Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis Saturday.
Dunwoody was timed in 8.34 seconds. He cut 0.48 seconds off his time from the 2025 state finals, in which he finished 15th.
He ran an 8.49 in the preliminaries, finishing second in his heat and qualifying sixth overall.
“A delay in parking upon arrival at the Indiana State Fairgrounds cut Dunwoody’s warm-up time to a bare minimum, and he was not able to get through his customary routine prior to prelims,” Rochester coach Ryan Helt said in a statement.
Helt said “there were a few moments of trepidation awaiting the results of the prelims.”
“Once qualification was settled, he was able to get better acclimated for the finals, and the result was the best 60 meter race of his life and a trip to the podium,” Helt added.
Helt also said Dunwoody would have finished seventh with the same time in the Large Schools Division.
Guerin Catholic’s Seffrin Smith won in 8.10 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Rochester boys 4 x 800 relay finished 21st in 9:00.75. The team consisted of Lincoln Holder, Camdyn Furnivall, Leandro Javier and Grant Bailey.
The team ran an 8:56.06 to qualify for the state meet. The top 24 qualifiers make state, and Rochester qualified 23rd.
In the girls meet, Kyra Doran qualified in the long jump and the 60 hurdles but did not compete due to what Helt called a “spring break conflict.”
Rochester will travel to Plymouth at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for their first outdoor meet of the year. Caston will also be among the teams participating.
