Kyle Evans is back for a second stint as the boys basketball coach at Culver.
The Culver Community School Board approved him as the new coach at a meeting Monday. Evans was also the Culver coach from 2020-24, compiling a 35-59 record. He stepped down to take an assistant coach position at Marian University Ancilla. While coaching at Ancilla in 2024-25, he remained on the faculty at Culver as a physical education teacher.
Former Madison-Grant girls coach and former Argos boys assistant coach Drew Mosson replaced Evans. Mosson stepped down in May after a 2-21 season.
Culver graduates only Adam Peterson from last season’s team. Three of Culver’s top five scorers were freshmen, including top scorer Braylon Jackson (7.3 ppg). Other freshmen expected back include Kolton Howard and John Carr. Twin brothers Caleb McCuen and Jonas McCuen and forward Drake Zorich are other potential returnees.
Evans also has previous head coaching experience at West Central (2014-15), Caston (2015-17) and North Judson (2017-20).
His best Culver team in his first stint was the 2022-23 team that won 12 games and advanced to the sectional final before falling to Marquette Catholic.
Evans is a 2006 West Central grad who also played on sectional championship teams at Argos in 2003 and 2004. He later played college football at Manchester University.
Evans is the son of Caston principal Chuck Evans, who will be retiring June 30. Chuck Evans is a former boys basketball coach at Argos and West Central.
