Girls tennis draw: Rochester to face Judson in opening round

Valley gets matchup with Wawasee at Warsaw

The Rochester girls tennis team will play North Judson in a Sectional 48 opening round match at Culver Academy, according to the IHSAA draw released Sunday.

The Rochester-North Judson match is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Rochester-North Judson winner will play Knox, who received a bye, in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. In the other half of the draw, Culver Academy drew Triton with the winner to face Plymouth.

The sectional final is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Rochester did not play North Judson during the regular season. They were supposed to meet at North Judson April 9, but the match was canceled due to inclement weather.

Rochester lost to Knox 3-2 on April 11 as part of the John Glenn Invitational.

Culver Academy has won seven consecutive sectional titles. They have not lost a sectional match since falling to Rochester in the 2017 final.

Meanwhile, Tippecanoe Valley drew Wawasee in their first-round matchup in Sectional 61 at Warsaw at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Valley-Wawasee winner will face Warsaw in the sectional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

In the other half of the bracket, Columbia City and Whitko will meet in the semifinals. 

The sectional final is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Warsaw has won 24 consecutive sectional titles. Valley has never won a sectional title in girls tennis.

Admission is free for sectionals.

Regionals are May 26-27, and semistates are May 30. Admission is $8 per day for regionals and semistates.

The state finals will be held at North Central High School in Indianapolis June 5-6. Admission is $15 per day.
