Haughs, E. Howdeshell both go 6 for 6 in win over Triton

Haughs gets 5 XBHs, drives in 6, E. Howdeshell hits for cycle as part of 24-hit attack

Softball

Rochester 25, Triton 11 (Tuesday): Emma Howdeshell and Sydney Haughs each went 6 for 6, and four other Rochester players had three hits each in a season-opening road win over Triton Tuesday.

Howdeshell hit for the cycle, drove in five runs and scored five times. Haughs homered twice, doubled three times, singled, drove in six runs and scored three times.

Kylie Coleman had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Kallie Watson and Emma Sells had three hits and an RBI each, and Keyton Doran added two doubles and a single.

Watson and Coleman scored four runs each.

The Lady Zs had 24 hits, drew five walks and stole 11 bases.

Rochester won despite their pitchers issuing 10 walks. Mia Howdeshell pitched the first two innings and allowed six runs. Fellow freshman Darah Strasser allowed five runs in two innings before winning pitcher Emma Sells finished with three scoreless innings.

Sells allowed one hit and one walk while fanning five.

Rochester led 11-0 going into the bottom of the third before Triton trimmed the deficit to 12-11 after four innings. Rochester scored three runs in the fifth inning and 10 more in the seventh.

Baseball

Rochester at LaVille, ppd.: The Rochester-LaVille baseball game was postponed for a second time Thursday. No makeup date has been set. The game was originally scheduled for April 2.

Rochester (1-0) will travel to Northwestern Friday before hosting John Glenn in a doubleheader Saturday.

Rochester JV at Carroll (Flora), ppd.: The Rochester-Carroll (Flora) JV baseball game scheduled for Wednesday was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for 6 p.m. May 5 at Carroll.

Girls tennis

Rochester at North Judson, canceled: The Rochester-North Judson girls tennis match scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to inclement weather.

Rochester will open their season at the John Glenn Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Boys golf

Rochester Invite start time moved back: Start time for the Rochester Invitational at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Saturday has been pushed back to 10:30 a.m. to allow for the possibility of warmer weather. There will be a shotgun start.

Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley are among the teams scheduled to compete.

Track

Rochester at John Glenn, canceled: The Rochester-John Glenn track meet scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to inclement weather.

Hiatt cited for Exemplary Behavior: Rick Stiles, who officiated the Plymouth-Rochester track meet at Barnhart Field on April 1, filed an Exemplary Behavior Report after the meet citing Rochester senior Peyton Hiatt.

Stiles said Hiatt ran to the high school block storage location after his own 800-meter race to find starting blocks for Plymouth runner Amber Schrameyer for her 200-meter race.

“Amber won the race, but Hiatt’s eagerness to help was truly noteworthy,” Stiles said in his report. “Thank you, Peyton, for demonstrating an eagerness and willingness to help others (even opponents). Your sportsmanship did not go unnoticed.”
