High school basketball roundup: Terre Haute North’s Woelfle to coach boys All-Stars

Terre Haute North boys basketball coach Todd Woelfle will coach the Indiana All-Stars, games director Mike Broughton announced Tuesday.

Hamilton Heights’ Chad Ballenger and Mount Vernon (Fortville)’s Joe Bradburn will serve as Woelfle’s assistants.

Woelfle has a 278-177 record after 18 seasons at Terre Haute North.  His team went 24-4 and won a regional title.

His teams have won two Conference Indiana, five sectional, two regional and 10 Wabash Valley Classic tournament titles during his tenure.

Ballenger has won 259 games in 19 seasons at Hamilton Heights.

Bradburn guided Mount Vernon to a 52-50 win over Crown Point in the Class 4A state championship game Saturday. He has won 365 games in 27 seasons as a head coach, including stops at Cowan, Yorktown, DeKalb, Huntington North, Greenwood and Mount Vernon.

The Indiana All-Stars will play an exhibition game against the Junior All-Stars at Mount Vernon June 3 and two games against the Kentucky All-Stars. The first game against the Kentucky All-Stars will be at Lexington Catholic High School June 5, and the second game will be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis June 6.

Oak Hill boys to play Hall of Fame Classic

The Oak Hill boys basketball team will play in the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle Fieldhouse Dec. 22.

Oak Hill will play Terre Haute North at 11 a.m. A game between Homestead and New Albany will follow.

The consolation game is set for 6 p.m., and the championship game will follow.

Oak Hill returns six of its top seven scorers from a team that went 25-2 and won Central Indiana Conference, sectional and regional titles.

Oak Hill is a rival of Rochester’s in Class 2A, Sectional 38.

Hawkins inducted into Hall of Fame

Former Caston and North Miami boys basketball coach Cliff Hawkins was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis March 18.

Hawkins coached Caston in the 1979-80 season, and he coached North Miami from 2017-19. 

Hawkins won 604 games in a 44-season coaching career. He retired in 2025.

Hawkins is a 1972 Cascade High School graduate.
