Caston 8, North Miami 5 (Friday): London Herd went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Parker Zimpleman and Brodie Howard added two RBIs each for the Caston baseball team in a win over North Miami at Huntington University Friday.
Zimpleman and Logan Mollenkopf had two hits each as part of an 11-hit Comet attack. Howard, Eli Holloway, Gavin Mollenkopf and Tucker Woolever had one hit each.
Holloway also had an RBI.
Logan Mollenkopf overcame seven walks over five innings for the win. He allowed four hits and three earned runs and struck out seven.
Howard pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the save. He allowed a hit and a walk, and he hit a batter, and he also fanned three.
Lake Musall had two hits and two RBIs for North Miami. Jension Carr doubled and drove in a run. Braylon McIntire and Keaton Floor each had a single.
Aiden Adams and Ryan Meredith both walked twice.
Quinn Hostetler took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 hits and seven runs (four earned) in five innings. He walked one and struck out six.
Musall relieved and allowed a hit and a run over the final two innings. He walked two and struck out two.
Herd’s two-run single highlighted a four-run first. Holloway made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly in the second.
Musall’s two-run single highlighted a five-run fifth for North Miami as they crept within 7-5.
North Miami was the home team.
The teams will meet again at Caston at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Class 1A, No. 2 Triton has clinched the conference title with a 15-1 conference mark.
