Triton 3, Culver 1 (11 innings, Saturday): Reese Herrell had two hits and an RBI, but Triton scored two runs in the top of the 11th to break a 1-1 tie and go on to beat Culver in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Tri-Township Saturday.
Hayden Parker singled and scored the lone Culver run ahead of Herrell’s hit in the sixth.
Culver finished the season 2-20. They lost to Triton for the third time this season. They also lost an 11-inning game at home to Triton in Hoosier North play on May 9.
The teams combined for just seven hits in the marathon game as well as 11 walks, four hit batters and 46 strikeouts.
Ths loss spoiled Culver freshman Jonas McCuen’s relief effort. In 6 ⅔ scoreless innings, he allowed just two hits while walking five, hitting a batter and striking out 17.
Parker relieved him with two outs in the 10th after McCuen threw 115 pitches and took the loss. Parker allowed two hits and two runs (both earned) while walking none and striking out one.
Caleb McCuen started for Culver and pitched three hitless innings. He allowed one unearned run while walking two and fanning seven.
Freshman Drew Bingamon and junior Jacob Pitney combined on a three-hitter for Triton. Bingamon allowed three hits and a run in 7 ⅓ innings. He walked three and struck out 14. Pitney, who earned the win, pitched 3 ⅔ hitless innings while walking one and striking out seven.
Triton would go on to lose 1-0 in eight innings to Marquette Catholic in the sectional final on Monday and finish 11-17.
