Jones’ 4 INTs, TD reception key Valley’s win over Garrett

Virgil runs for 185 yards, TD; Shepherd accounts for 166 yards of offense

Tippecanoe Valley 22, Garrett 8 (Friday): Sophomore safety Wade Jones intercepted four passes, and the Valley offense amassed 442 yards of offense in a road win over Garrett in a Class 3A, Sectional 26 quarterfinal Friday.

Jamasyn Virgil ran for 185 yards and a touchdown, including a 69-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He also had 18 yards passing and seven yards receiving.

Braden Shepherd added 108 yards receiving, including a 77-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. Shepherd also had 12 carries for 58 yards.

Branson McBrier completed seven of 11 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Jones also had a 31-yard touchdown reception.

Robert Koskie ran for 113 yards for Garrett. Koskie’s 3-yard touchdown run with 7:37 left broke up Valley’s shutout bid.

Valley had no turnovers while Garrett had five.

Jones’ 10 interceptions are a single-season Valley record.

The No. 7 Vikings improved to 10-0 for the first time since 1981.

Valley will next play Mishawaka Marian at home at 7 p.m. this Friday. Mishawaka Marian defeated South Bend Washington 49-14 Friday.

Valley lost to Mishawaka Marian 41-24 in last year’s sectional semifinals. The Knights are the six-time defending sectional champions.

If Valley beats Mishawaka Marian, they will host the sectional final against John Glenn or Jimtown on Nov. 5.
