Strycker’s steal and coast-to-coast layup with 29 seconds left in overtime put Pioneer ahead for good at 48-46.

Kynzie Hathway fouled Rossville’s Avery Layton with 12.7 seconds left. Layton made the first but missed the second, and Hathaway rebounded.

Strycker was fouled with 7.6 seconds left as she advanced it into the frontcourt. She made the first but missed the second. Pioneer’s Avery Haselby rebounded but was called for traveling.

Caydence Robey’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer was long, and Pioneer’s players leaped in elation.

Pioneer won their seventh straight game and improved to 8-7. They have won the tournament in two of the three years it has been played.

Ava Burkle scored 21, and Allie Elliott added 14 for Rossville, whose three-game winning streak was snapped and fell to 9-5.

Pioneer led 21-20 at halftime but trailed 33-27 after three quarters.

A Strycker 3-pointer cut the lead to 33-30, and McKaig scored the next nine Lady Panther points on a 3-point play and two 3-point shots. The second of those 3-point shots, which came after an offensive rebound, gave Pioneer a 39-37 lead with 3:09 left.

After Burkle drove to the hoop for a game-tying layup, Strycker gave Pioneer the lead again with a triple. She later split a pair of free throws to bump the lead to four.

But a Layton free throw and two Burkle free throws cut the lead to one, and after Strycker missed two free throws, Robey weaved through the Pioneer 2-3 zone off the dribble and scored to give Rossville a 44-43 lead with 11 seconds left.

Pioneer did not call timeout, and Robey raced to the other end and tried to draw a charging foul on the driving Strycker, but Robey was called for a blocking foul, and Strycker made the second free throw after missing the first to tie the game.

A Rossville miss from halfcourt led to overtime.

Strycker put back her own miss from 10 feet to open the scoring in overtime. A Burkle 10-footer in traffic tied at 46 with 1:32 left in the extra period.
