Lewellen scores 18, leads Pioneer into sectional semis

Pioneer 41, Frontier 36 (Tuesday): Ezra Lewellen scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter for the Panthers in a win over Frontier in a Class 1A, Sectional 52 quarterfinal at Tri-County Tuesday.

Drew McKaig buried a pair of 3-pointers and added eight. Christian Scott came off the bench to score six.

Pioneer trailed 20-18 at halftime but outscored Frontier 12-4 in the third quarter to take a 30-24 lead.

Pioneer (9-11) prevailed despite making just five of 13 free throws.

Justin Schroeder scored 13 points for Frontier in the loss.

Pioneer has allowed only one of their last 15 opponents to score 50 or more points.

Pioneer has won at least one sectional game three straight years and in 11 of the last 13 years.

Frontier (8-10) has had 11 consecutive losing seasons.
