Senior catcher Bryce Tucker singled, homered and drove in three runs, and Max Platt singled, homered and drove in two runs for the Whitko baseball team in a 10-7 win over conference and sectional rival Rochester at Bob Copeland Field Wednesday.

Whitko scored six runs in the second to take a 7-2 lead, and they never trailed again.

Sophomore Jaxon Harper allowed three runs (two earned) in three innings for the win. He allowed two hits and walked one while striking out three. Platt allowed two unearned runs in three innings of relief before RHS got to Auden Hoffman allowed two runs in the seventh.

Whitko pitchers walked six and hit three batters. The Wildcats also committed five errors that led to five unearned runs. Still, they did enough for the win.

McGlothin had two of the Zebras’ four hits. Ethan Medina had a single and two RBIs.Kane Lutz also drove in a run. Evan Elliott also had a hit.

Elliott took the loss on the hill. He allowed five hits, including both Tucker’s and Platt’s homers, and four walks in two innings. He walked four and struck out three.

Brock Beehler allowed one run over two innings, and Tarick McGlothin allowed a pair of runs over the final three innings.

Rochester pitchers walked seven overall. The teams combined for 13 walks, three hit batters and eight wild pitches in wet, muddy conditions.

The Zebras were coming off a 13-3 loss in five innings to Logansport Tuesday. Rochester coach Cory Good thinks the team might be their own worst enemies.

“We just beat ourselves,” Good said. “We’ve done this a few games now. I think we had four hits. Gave them free bases to start the game. They capitalized, and we couldn’t get much moving on offense. Not a good day.”
