North Miami 3, Northfield 2 (Thursday): Ryan Meredith capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as the Warriors edged Northfield in a Class 1A, Sectional 55 quarterfinal at Daleville Thursday.
Northfield pitcher Caleb DuBois had retired nine consecutive batters going into the seventh, but Logan Smith led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit, and Collin Floyd entered as a pinch runner.
Quinn Hostetler struck out, but pinch hitter Aiden Adams walked, and Evan Chumbley lined a single to center to load the bases.
Reliever Branson Hayslett then walked Keaton Floor to tie the game before hitting Meredith.
North Miami outhit Northfield 6-4. No player on either team had a multi-hit game.
Jension Carr singled and had an RBI, and Lake Musall doubled. Braylon McIntire and Floor each added a single.
Musall pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win. He allowed a hit and hit a batter while striking out two. McIntire started and worked four innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. He walked four and struck out one.’
North Miami (16-12) will take on Southwood in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. today. Southwood rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Southern Wells 7-6 Friday. Southwood is 2-15 with both wins coming against Southern Wells.
