Valley’s Sisk eliminated in first round

Led by champions Rex Moore and Hartley Hoover, the North Miami boys wrestling team advanced a school-record five wrestlers to the IHSAA state finals from the Fort Wayne semistate Saturday.
North Miami finished second out of 58 teams in the semistate field with 119 points. Delta won with 142.5 points.
Moore improved to 40-0 at 126, and Hoover improved to 44-0 at 215. Moore capped his day with a fall in 3:46 over Garrett’s Abrum Swathwood. Hoover capped his day with a fall in 3:09 over Wawasee’s Derek Morrison in the final.
The other North Miami wrestlers advancing included Jordan Simon, who was second at 190; Logan Smith, who was second at heavyweight; and Braylon McIntire, who was third at 120.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to state, which begins at 3 p.m. Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Simon beat Angola’s Owen Shull on a major decision, South Adams’ Wes Summersett on a fall and West Noble’s Brogan Parks on a 4-3 decision to get to the final before losing by fall to Bellmont’s Xavior Palacios in 3:27 in the title match.
Smith pinned NorthWood’s Mason London in 3:15 and won by major decision over Garrett’s Jacob Reynolds in the ticket round. He then pulled out a 6-3 overtime win over Elkhart’s Kyle Sommer in the semifinals before losing by fall in 35 seconds to Leo’s undefeated Isaiah Coolman in the final.
McIntire beat Jay County’s Sylas Wenk by tech fall and Angola’s Alex DeLaCruz by fall to punch his state ticket before suffering his first loss of the season to Delta’s Reed Wicker 7-1 in the semifinals. McIntire then bounced back to beat Concord’s Kaiden Braden by tech fall in the third-place match.
McIntire drew Rochester’s Jackson Robbins for his first-round state match. McIntire already has two wins over Robbins this season. Robbins took second at the East Chicago semistate.
Hunter Duncan’s junior season ended with a loss by fall to Yorktown’s Jackson Webb in 53 seconds in the ticket round at 113. Duncan got to the ticket round with a win by fall over NorthWood’s Trevor Munsell in 5:30.
Kolten Sisk, the lone Tippecanoe Valley wrestler at Fort Wayne, had his prep career end with an 8-0 loss to Sommer in the first round.
