Peru softball scores 5 in 7th, knocks off Rochester

Baseball: Class 3A, No. 6 Peru beats Zebras in extra innings

Softball

Peru 9, Rochester 7 (Thursday): Kylie Coleman had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, but the host Lady Zs lost their Three Rivers Conference opener to Peru Wednesday.

Emma Howeshell also had two hits and two runs scored.

Sydney Haughs and Maddie Heinzmann each had a hit and an RBI. Carlee Blackburn, Emma Goodman and Keyton Doran also had hits. Chloe Nichols had an RBI.

Haughs started and allowed one earned run over six innings. She allowed three hits, walked three, hit two batters and struck out seven.

Howdeshell and Emma Sells followed her to the circle.

Graycee Ansari pitched a nine-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Peru.

Rochester led 4-2 after five innings. Peru broke a 4-4 tie by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh.

Peru 6, Rochester 4 (9 innings, Thursday): Brock Beehler had an RBI single, and Grant McCarter had a two-run double in the fourth inning, but Peru rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat Rochester in the TRC opener for both schools at Bob Copeland Field Thursday.

Kade Townsend and Leif Astrup combined on a four-hitter for Peru. Jackson Rogers’ RBI single in the ninth off Evan Elliott put Peru ahead for good.

Kyle Reinartz started and allowed four hits and two runs over 4 ⅓ innings. Beehler and Elliott relieved.

Peru, who is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A, improved to 10-0.
