Rude, Logan drive in 4 each, Warner homers as Caston gets past N. Miami

Caston 16, North Miami 10 (Thursday): Natalie Warner had a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth among her three hits and also drove in three runs as the Caston softball team improved to 2-0 in the Hoosier North with a win over visiting North Miami Thursday.

Myli Rude added two singles and a double and four RBIs, and Kylee Logan had two hits and also drove in four runs. Mia Mersch, Lexie Field and Abigail Apperson each had a hit.

Mersch also had two RBIs, and Avery Baldwin and Jordyn Middleton each had an RBI.

The top four hitters in Caston’s order combined for 11 hits and 13 RBIs.

Warner pitched the final 2 ⅓ innings for the win. She allowed no hits and three runs while walking three and striking out one. Warner relieved Hadlie Coffing, who allowed seven hits and seven runs over 4 ⅔ innings. She walked two and struck out four.

Caston committed six errors that led to seven unearned runs for North Miami.

Zoey Sparks doubled and homered and drove in two runs for North Miami. Khloe Hovermale and Lindsey Pugh added two hits each. Porscha Pickett had a hit and an RBI. Audi Medina, Chloe Sparks and Layla Hampton each had an RBI.

Porscha Pickett started and allowed seven hits and 13 runs (nine earned) in five innings. She walked six, hit five batters and struck out four.

Zoey Sparks pitched one inning of relief and allowed four hits and three earned runs. She walked none and struck out one.

North Miami dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Hoosier North.

Caston is 3-1, 2-0.
