Pioneer’s Erickson named Hoosier North co-MVP

4 Pioneer, 2 Caston players join Culver’s Parker on all-conference team

Hoosier North co-MVP Brayden Erickson

Pioneer’s Brayden Erickson was named Hoosier North co-MVP in voting done by the conference’s coaches and released to the media Wednesday.

Erickson joined teammates Caleb Sweet, Derek Duncan and Eli Miller on the all-conference team.

In addition, senior Jake Erickson received honorable mention status.

Caston’s Talon Zeider and Gavin Mollenkopf also made the first team with Noah Herd, Pete DuVall and Jackson Rentschler earning honorable mention.

Culver’s Hayden Parker also made the first team.

Brayden Erickson hit .486 with five homers and a team-high 31 RBIs. His 1.382 OPS was a team-high. He also went 6-2 with a 2.89 ERA on the mound with 71 strikeouts in a team-high 46 innings.

Erickson shared the MVP award with North Judson senior Quinton Frasure.

Sweet hit .411 with two homers and 27 RBIs and a 1.089 OPS. He had a team-high 37 hits.

Duncan, a senior second baseman, hit .333 with 37 RBIs. Miller hit .365 with one homer and 12 RBIs and a 1.011 OPS.

Jake Erickson hit .333 with 15 RBIs and also had a 2.82 ERA in 27 ⅓ innings on the mound.

Zeider hit .338 with 10 RBIs, and he also had 14 walks out of the leadoff spot in the batting order for a .970 OPS. He also led the team in wins (six), innings pitched (53 ⅓) and strikeouts (54) on the mound.

Mollenkopf, a freshman catcher, hit .313 with 13 RBIs and an .825 OPS. He struck out only six times in 67 at-bats. Of the 21 players who made the all-conference team, only two were freshmen.

Herd hit .315 with two homers and 16 RBIs and a .781 OPS. He also went 1-2 with a 1.69 ERA on the mound and did not allow a homer in 29 innings pitched. DuVall had a team-high 17 RBIs at the plate, and he also went 4-4 with a 2.93 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 43 innings on the mound. Rentschler, a left-handed hitting first baseman, hit .277 with 12 RBIs. He had a team-high 16 walks for a .435 on-base percentage.

Parker was the lone Culver player recognized. The Cavaliers finished 0-14 in conference play.
