Pioneer sports briefs: Volleyball goes 3-1 at Franklin Central Invite

Girls cross-country 9th, boys 5th at Jacob Graf Invite

Volleyball

The Pioneer volleyball team went 3-1 at the Franklin Central Invitational Saturday and now stands at 5-1 on the season.

The Lady Panthers beat Columbus North, lost to Zionsville, beat Franklin Central and beat Rossville. All four matches went two sets

Pioneer def. Lewis Cass, 25-17, 25-16, 25-12 (Aug. 14): Hailey Cripe had nine kills, and Brooklyn Borges had eight kills for Pioneer in a season-opening win over Lewis Cass Aug. 14.

Mackenzie Rogers had four aces, and Mackenzie Robinson had three.

Rogers also had 17 assists. Robinson had 12 digs.

Cross-country

Montgomery, Dodt lead Pioneer teams at Jacob Graf Invite (Saturday): The Pioneer girls cross-country finished ninth out of 10 teams, and the boys finished fifth out of 11 teams at the Jacob Graf Invitational at Logansport Saturday.

Violet Montgomery was ninth among all individuals in 21:56 to lead the Pioneer girls. Northwestern’s Hannah Moore won the race in 20:24/

Leighton Dodt was the boys frontrunner, taking 16th overall in 19:07. Tipton’s Evan Long crossed the finish line first in 17:06.
