Renie storms way in to RTC player of year

Welcome to the inaugural all-RTC boys golf team.

We tried to make it to as many watches as we could, and we noticed three standout players in our area this year: Rochester’s Reece Renie and Wade Shafer and Tippecanoe Valley’s Greg Miller.

All three earned all-conference team status, and all three showed off the power and precision necessary to play at a high level.

Ultimately, our pick for RTC player of the year was Renie, who was peaking at the end of the season, as was evidenced by taking sectional medalist honors.

He also helped Rochester finish in second place at both conference and sectionals and led them to a regional team berth.

We thank all the coaches in the area for their insightful comments in helping us. Still, this list is ours and ours alone and we take full responsibility for it.

We place special emphasis on 18-hole tournaments over nine-hole weekday dual matches, and we also emphasize conference and postseason tournaments.

First team

Reece Renie (Rochester) – Renie combined strength, experience and a very good iron game.
Greg Miller (Tippecanoe Valley) – He lost his freshman season to the pandemic, but the youth tour veteran showed that he was one of the area’s best players immediately. He never really had a bad round.
Wade Shafer (Rochester) – Shafer made the RTC first team in soccer and wrestling, and now you can add golf to the list. His short game was on point by the end of the season.
Jaxon Roudebush (Winamac) – Roudebush made the all-Hoosier North team and then broke 90 at the sectional.
Drew Strasser (Rochester) – This was a very close call, but we’re giving our final spot to the scrappy Strasser, who doesn’t have great length off the tee but makes up for it with a good short game.
