Rochester senior Zoe Seward finished eighth out of 24 runners in the 3,200 meters at the Hoosier State Relays at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington Saturday.
Seward’s time of 11:29.70 was both an indoor personal best and the best ever time by a Rochester runner at the Hoosier State Relays, beating times by former state qualifiers Anna Meyer, Kelsey Tyler and Madilyn Calloway.
By finishing eighth, Seward scored Rochester’s only team point. They finished in a tie for 39th place as a team.
Seward also anchored the distance medley relay team, which placed 16th out of 24 teams in 14:02.80. Araceli Ochoa led off by running 1,200, followed by Audrey Wagner’s 400, Kendyll Bradley’s 800 and Seward’s 1,600. Park Tudor won the race in 12:24.95.
The boys distance medley relay team also competed and finished 22nd out of 24 teams in 11:25.71. The team consisted of Wes Steininger’s 1,200-meter leg, Maddox Jewell’s 400, R.J. Keranko’s 800 and Chris Rohr’s 1,600.
That ranks as the third fastest distance medley relay time in school history, according to coach Ryan Helt.
Guerin Catholic won the race in 10:40.48.
Helt also noted in a statement that Rohr cut nine seconds off his personal best in the 1,600 in a race before the meet.
Rochester will travel to Plymouth at 5 p.m. Friday for their first outdoor meet of the season.
