Shedrow scores 25 in final home game, leads Culver past LaVille for first conference win

Girls basketball

Culver 40, LaVille 31 (Saturday): Maddie Shedrow scored 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the host Lady Cavaliers as they defeated LaVille in their regular season finale Saturday.

Grace Sieber knocked down two 3-pointers and added eight points. Lizzie Pugh had four points and eight rebounds. Baleigh Binkley had two points and five steals.

Culver was playing their third game in three days.

Culver broke an eight-game conference losing streak. Culver won a conference game for the first time since a 45-25 win over Caston on Jan. 9, 2020.

Lucy Sherk had 12, and Heaylyn Kwiatkowski added 11 for LaVille.

Culver trailed 14-7 after one quarter but came back to lead 17-16 at halftime.

LaVille, who was playing their fourth game in four days, scored six points in the second and third quarters combined. They lost their 13th consecutive game.

Culver finished the regular season 7-12 overall and 1-6 in the Hoosier North.

Braxton Conley added nine, Owen Clingler and Emiliano Ortiz scored five each, Cameron Minix had three, and Marquez Anderson, Auston Zehner and Shane Shuman scored two each.

Layton Czarnecki led LaVille with a game-high 16 points. Andrew Dill added 11.

LaVille led 37-32 before Culver outscored them 11-5 in the fourth quarter.
