Shepherd wins both hurdles races as Valley takes 3rd at INSC

Bremen tops Jimtown for team title

Tippecanoe Valley senior Betty Shepherd won both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Indiana Northern State Conference girls track  meet at LaVille Wednesday, helping her team finish third in the six-team field.

Bremen won with 147 points. Jimtown was second with 142.5, and Valley had 66.

Shepherd’s 100 hurdles time of 17.50 seconds beat runner-up Madison Mishler by 1.13 seconds. She later ran a 49.36 to beat Mishler by 4.82 seconds in the 300 hurdles. There was a greater time difference between Shepherd and Mishler than between Mishler and the sixth-place finisher.

Shepherd was a state qualifier in the 300 hurdles in 2024.

Shepherd also took second in the discus with a throw of 107-1.

Alexis Elliott was third behind Shepherd in the 300 hurdles and also ran a leg on the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays that finished third. Chaney Miller was fourth in the long jump, sixth in the 400 and joined Elliott on both relays. Martin and Trista VanDoren joined Elliott and Miller on the 4 x 100 relay, and Shepherd and Mackenzie Evans joined them on the 4 x 400 relay.

Haley Derf was Valley’s other top three finisher, taking third in the shot put.
