After the IHSAA canceled spring sports, girls golfers became the guinea pigs.
They were the athletes who were the first to compete in an uncertain landscape in which the coronavirus had set in.
They were ones who provided many of the great thrills in our area.
So here is the first annual all-RTC girls golf team, which was led by a state qualifier and multiple strong teams and players.
This list is based on results, conversations with area players and coaches and our own observations.
First team
Kristianna Lingenfelter (Rochester) (RTC Player of the Year) – Lingenfelter was both athletically gifted and a great course manager. She was the Three Rivers Conference medalist and showed off her clutch ability by making the state finals in a playoff at the regional.
Madelyn Weaver (Tippecanoe Valley) – Weaver was the No. 1 player on the Three Rivers Conference champs, anchoring the team with both long drives and good touch around the greens.
Karah Lingenfelter (Rochester) – Lingenfelter persisted through rough conditions during the sectional at Stonehenge Golf Club to make the regional.
Hailey Gotshall (Pioneer) – Gotshall won medalist honors at the Hoosier North tourney and then persisted through a tough Tippecanoe Country Club course to make the regional.
Keira Bucinski (Winamac) – Bucinski was an all-Hoosier North player and a regional qualifier.
Honorable mention
Lily Ault (Tippecanoe Valley)
Janet Calfee (Winamac)
