Valley baseball roundup: Fairfield beats Valley 15-0

Manuel stars in season-opening win over Northfield

Fairfield 15, Tippecanoe Valley 0 (5 innings, Thursday): Hunter Paxton, Wes Haines and Luke Tucker each had a single for Valley in a road loss to Fairfield Thursday.

Weston Brown walked twice. Cameron Manuel and Aiden Shepherd each had a walk.

Paxton took the loss on the hill, allowing 10 runs (three earned) in 2 ⅔ innings. He allowed eight hits and walked three while striking out one. 

Tucker relieved and allowed six hits and five runs (four earned) in 1 ⅓ innings. He walked none and struck out two.

Landon Miller had a triple, a homer and four RBIs for Fairfield, who had 12 extra-base hits as a team. He also pitched four innings for the win.

Already leading 4-0, Fairfield scored seven runs in the bottom of the third.

Valley 8, Northfield 6 (Monday): Cameron Manuel doubled and drove in two runs at the plate and also struck out nine in three innings on the mound for the win as Valley took down visiting Northfield in their season opener Monday.

Luke Tucker and Will Mellott each had an RBI for Valley. Jamison Phillips singled and scored twice, and Landon Durkes singled and scored a run.

Northfield pitchers walked seven and hit three batters. Valley also stole six bases.

Manuel allowed five hits and three runs while walking two. Tucker pitched three innings and allowed two hits and two runs while walking four and striking out three. Paxton allowed a run in the seventh but earned the save. He walked one.

Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good at 4-3. They added three more runs in the fourth.
