Valley girls tennis sweeps singles in win over John Glenn

Girls tennis

Tippecanoe Valley 4, John Glenn 1 (May 5): Valley swept all three singles matches in straight sets, and Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken won a third-set 10-point tiebreak at No. 1 doubles for the visiting Valley girls tennis team in a win over John Glenn on May 5.

Karegan Callahan knocked off Kelsey Yelaska 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Lydia Miller handled Isabell Allsop 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Talia Holder topped Sophie McCochlin 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Ault and Sandbakken split the first two sets with Olivia Norem and Brooke Vermillion 6-4, 6-7 (5) before winning the decisive tiebreak 10-4.

John Glenn’s McKinley Platz and Vivian Stephens handled Sarah Finney and Madelyn Weaver 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Valley also won the JV match 5-1.

Callahan wins at No. 1 singles, but Valley falls to Manchester

Girls tennis

Manchester 4, Tippecanoe Valley 1 (May 8): Karegan Callahan won in straight sets at No. 1 singles over Sarah Kerlin, but the visiting Lady Vikings lost the other four matches to Manchester on May 8.

Callahan won 6-4, 6-3, but Lydia Miller and Talia Holder could manage only four games combined in losses at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken fell to Addison Brubaker and Hailey Krom 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Katie Jenkins and Kate Schroll beat Valley’s Kylee Trepanier and Madelyn Weaver 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Valley girls tennis sweeps Wabash in rain-shortened match

Girls tennis

Tippecanoe Valley 5, Wabash 0 (Friday): In a match shortened due to rain, the host Lady Vikings beat Wabash Friday.

Only one of the matches – Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken’s 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles – was played to conclusion. Valley players had won the first set in the other four matches and were leading in the second set as well.

Karegan Callahan was leading 6-1, 3-1 at No. 1 singles. Lydia Miller was ahead 6-1, 2-0 at No. 2 singles. Talia Holder held a 6-0, 2-0 lead at No. 3 singles.

Kylee Trepanier and Madelyn Weaver had a 6-1, 4-1 lead at No. 2 doubles.

Valley improved to 4-3 in the TRC.



Valley sweeps singles in senior night win over Northfield

Draw: Valley gets Whitko; Columbia City awaits winner

Girls tennis

Tippecanoe Valley 3, Northfield 2 (Monday): Karegan Callahan, Lydia Miller and Talia Holder each won their singles matches in straight sets for Valley in a Three Rivers Conference home win over Northfield in their regular season finale Monday.

Callahan handled Elli Baker 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Miller beat Kylie Leland 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Holder held off Claire Thompson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken won the first set but lost in three to Eden Hoover and Camryn Kuhn at No. 1 doubles. Kylee Trepanier and Madelyn Weaver won the first set but lost in three against Caller Hiffman and Hannah Wilson at No. 2 doubles.

Miller, Holder, Ault, Trepanier, Weaver, Lelin Gallego and Ella Kim were honored as part of senior night festivities.

Valley finished the regular season 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the TRC. They will carry a four-match winning streak into the postseason.

Valley draws Whitko in sectional opener

The Valley girls tennis team drew Whitko in the Warsaw sectional quarterfinals, and the teams will meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Whitko beat Valley 4-1 in their regular season meeting at Whitko on April 20. Ault and Sandbakken won in three sets for Valley’s lone point.

The Valley-Whitko winner will play Columbia City, who received a bye, in the semifinals. Warsaw and Wawasee also received byes and will play each other in the other semifinal.

Valley has never won a sectional title in girls tennis.

Warsaw has won 21 consecutive sectional titles. They have not lost a sectional match since 2000.
