The Tippecanoe Valley girls golf team earned honorable mention status in the first Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association poll of the season.

Valley finished second at the Plymouth Invitational and won the Benton Central Invitational in their two 18-hole tournaments of the week. They also won a nine-hole, three-way match against sectional rivals Columbia City and Wawasee.

Valley was the only Three Rivers Conference team to receive poll recognition. Culver Academy, who is tied for No. 13, is the only other team in Valley’s sectional to receive poll recognition.

Carmel is No. 1.

Valley 183, Pioneer 243, Caston (incomplete team) (Monday): The Valley girls golf team shot a 183 and won a three-way home match against Pioneer and Caston at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Monday.

Molly Moriarty was the medalist with a 44, Madelyn Weaver had a 45, Kaydence Mellott had a 46, Lily Ault had a 48, and Maddie Thompson had a 62 for Valley.

Valley wins Benton Central Invite (Friday): Madelyn Weaver shot a 78 to finish second among individuals and lead the Valley girls golf team to the team title at the Benton Central Invitational at Oak Grove Country Club in Oxford Friday.

Valley shot a 359 and topped runner-up West Lafayette by six strokes. Western, who finished 12th at last year’s state finals, was third with a 375.

In addition to Weaver, Molly Moriarty shot an 87 to finish fifth among individuals. Kaydence Mellott had a 96, Lily Ault had a 98, and Lydia Miller had a 131.

Western’s Elizabeth Mercer was the medalist with a 75. The tournament consisted of eight complete teams.

Valley 189, Columbia City 195, Wawasee 210 (Aug. 3): Madelyn Weaver shot a 40 to earn medalist honors and lead Valley past host Columbia City and Wawasee at Eagle Glen Golf Club on Aug. 3. Lily Ault added a 48, Molly Moriarty had a 50, and Kaydence Mellott had a 51.
