The Tippecanoe Valley School Board hired Trevor Brown as its new boys soccer coach at a meeting Monday.
The vote was 5-0 in favor of the hiring as done as part of a consent agenda covering a number of personnel matters.
Brown was previously the coach at Rochester from 2007-20, guiding the program from its inception as a varsity program. Brown was removed as coach on April 29, 2021, and later replaced by Elmer Roque.
Top players at Rochester included Zac DuBois, Taylor Medina, Will Thonn and Zach Pickens.
Brown guided Rochester to Class 1A sectional titles in 2015-16.
Brown replaces Andrew Luce as coach.
“Trevor is a soccer lifer,” Valley athletic director Aaron Butcher said in a statement. “Whether it is playing, officiating or coaching, Trevor has been around soccer in some capacity for most of his life. Coach Luce did a good job of helping further establish the program during his time here, and I am excited to now see what Trevor can do. He is organized and passionate, and I know he will develop a strong culture and demand excellence from his student-athletes.”
Brown said he wants to emphasize team play.
“Being successful is working as hard as you can to achieve your highest level, and results are the byproduct of doing things the right way and taking care of details,” Brown said. “As a coach, my goal is to maximize each player’s abilities, help them with the psychological part of the game and life and create a team environment where the team is more important than the individual.
“I want to thank Coach Mark Gordon and Coach Andrew Luce for what they have done to lay a foundation for Valley soccer. I am honored to usher in a new chapter in Tippecanoe Valley soccer where we will be committed to honoring the game with gumption, togetherness and joy.”
Valley went 7-9-1 last season. The season ended with a 6-0 loss to Argos in a Class 2A sectional quarterfinal.
Brown is a Westfield High School and Milligan College grad. He was an assistant girls and boys soccer coach at David Crockett High School in Jonesborough, Tenn., before taking the Rochester job.
He also has coached in the Fulton County Soccer Association since 2006.
Brown has also been a licensed official since 1994.
Brown is the husband of Rochester swimming coach Stephanie Brown.
