Valley postponements: Track meet rescheduled for Thursday

Softball to host Northfield Thursday, baseball on May 13

Track

Wabash/Northfield at Valley, ppd.: The three-way track meet between Wabash, Northfield and Tippecanoe Valley scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to Thursday due to inclement weather.

Start time is 5:30 p.m. at Valley.

Manchester 82, Valley 44 (girls, Thursday)

Manchester 73, Valley 55 (boys, Thursday)

Sidney Wagner won the high jump and pole vault, and Chloe Shepherd won the discus and shot put for Valley in a home loss to Manchester Thursday.

In addition, Chesnee Miller won the 3,200 meters in 13:05.

Manchester won every individual event from 100 meters to 1,600 meters, and they also swept all three relays.

In the boys meet, Valley swept all five field events. Wade Melanson won the discus and shot put, Braden Shepherd won the long jump, Dawson Perkins won the high jump, and Alek Mikel won the pole vault.

Melanson’s winning shot put throw was 49-1.

Mikel also won the 400 meters in 54.7 seconds. Rex Kirchenstien won the 200 meters. Valley also won the 4 x 100 relay in 45.6 seconds, which coach Jenny Moriarty noted was into the wind in a statement released to the media.

“On the girls side, we were down a few sprinters, but lone sprinter Ava Smith ran strong in the 100 with a third place and second in the 200,” Valley coach Jenny Moriarty said.

The rescheduling of the Valley game means that Northfield will not be playing Caston on Thursday.

Culver Academy at Valley, ppd.: The Culver Academy-Valley softball game scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to May 18 due to inclement weather. Start time is 5 p.m. at Valley.

Valley at Culver, canceled: The Valley-Culver softball game scheduled for Monday has been canceled due to inclement weather.

Baseball

Northfield at Valley, ppd.: The Northfield-Valley baseball game scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed to May 13 due to inclement weather. Start time is 5:30 p.m. at Valley.

Valley JV at Rochester, ppd.: The Valley-Rochester JV baseball game scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed due to inclement weather and rescheduled for May 3. The JV game will start after the varsity game is completed. The varsity game will start at 5 p.m. at Rochester.

Girls tennis

LaVille at Valley, ppd.: The LaVille-Valley girls tennis match scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to May 5 due to inclement weather. Start time is 5 p.m. at Valley.

Valley 5, Knox 0 (Thursday): Valley won all five matches in straight sets to earn their first win of the season Thursday. Valley lost 11 games in the five matches combined.

Hannah Parson, Hannah Engstrand and Peyton Oldham each won their singles matches. Mackenzie Costello and Kaitlin Neese won at No. 1 doubles, and Bri Feldman and Kaydence Shepherd won at No. 2 doubles.

Valley also won the JV match 4-0.

Valley takes 12th at Marquette Invite (Saturday): The Valley boys golf team shot a 424 and placed 12th out of 15 teams at Briar Leaf Golf Club in LaPorte Saturday.

Greg Miller shot an 82 to lead Valley and place third among all individuals. Mason Purvis had a 107, Eli Love had a 112, Johnny Gonsalez had a 123, and Gavin Grossman had a 137.
