WARSAW — Reserve freshman guard Joslyn Bricker drilled four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Warsaw girls basketball team to a 72-36 rout of visiting Tippecanoe Valley at the Tiger Den on Nov. 10.
Abbey Peterson, younger sister of former Valley player Emily Peterson, added 16 for Warsaw, who improved to 1-1.
Kaydence Mellott led the Lady Vikings (3-1) with 18 points, but no other Valley player had more than two field goals.
Valley also committed 24 turnovers as Warsaw put heavy pressure on the ball and made it difficult for Valley to advance the ball past halfcourt.
Bricker hit three 3-pointers during a 23-1 Warsaw run that closed the first half. Valley had gotten within 22-16 on a pair of Chesnee Miller baskets, the first off a Lily Ault assist in traffic and the second on a runner in the lane.
But Zoe Bergan hit a 15-footer from the right baseline, and Peterson scored on a driving layup. The lead stayed in double digits the rest of the night.
Then Bricker found the touch from the perimeter, and Warsaw got the lead to 45-17 at halftime.
Valley coach Chris Kindig used four of his five allotted timeouts in the first half.
Valley stayed within 53-28 on two Mellott free throws with 2:13 left in the third quarter, but Warsaw went on an 11-0 run that Bricker capped with two free throws with 7:51 left to make it 64-28. After that, the IHSAA mercy rule went into effect.
Valley lost to Warsaw for the fourth straight year.
Kindig declined comment after the game.
