Winamac boys basketball briefs: Compton, Brandt score in double figures in loss to Pioneer

Warriors jump out to 17-0 lead, beat sectional rival Delphi

Boys basketball

Pioneer 51, Winamac 37 (Friday): Brock Robinson scored 10 of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, and Ezra Lewellen added 14 for the Panthers in a Hoosier North road win over Winamac Friday.

Drew McKaig and Hunter Klepinger added nine points each.

Russell Compton scored 11, and Beau Brandt added 10 for Winamac in the loss.

Pioneer outscored Winamac 12-0 in the second quarter in building a 24-11 halftime lead.

Winamac lost to Pioneer for the second straight year.

Pioneer improved to 7-10 and finished Hoosier North play 4-3. Winamac fell to 6-14, 2-5.

Winamac 53, Delphi 38 (Feb. 18): Russell Compton scored seven of his game-high 17 points in the first quarter as Winamac jumped out to a 17-0 lead and cruised to a home win over sectional rival Delphi Feb. 18.

Beau Brandt added 12 points, and Ryan Gregor made seven of eight free throws and added 11.

Luke Smock scored 14 points, and Peyton Roth added 11 for Delphi.

Winamac made more free throws (18) than Delphi attempted (8).

The teams could meet again in the sectional final at Delphi March 6.

Delphi coach Austin Cowley is a 2001 Winamac grad.
