Boys basketball

DeMotte Christian 61, Winamac 58 (Feb. 26): Justin Potthoff scored 24 points, and Jaybin Hines added 15 for Winamac in a home loss to DeMotte Christian in their regular season finale.

Will Malchow added eight, and Ethan Burgess had six, all in the second half.

Tony Bos led DeMotte Christian with 25 points, and Tanyon Bakker and Titus Terpstra added 14 each. Ben Eisses had seven, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 12 seconds left.

DeMotte Christian hit nine 3-pointers.

DeMotte Christian led 35-29 at halftime. Winamac cut the deficit to 48-44 after three quarters.

The 61 points allowed tied a season-high for Winamac. Despite that, Winamac still led the state in defensive scoring average (35.7 ppg) for the regular season.

Both teams are 19-4.

The loss snapped Winamac’s 10-game winning streak. The streak was Winamac’s longest since a 13-game winning streak in the 1996-97 season.

Winamac 61, Logansport 55 (OT, Feb. 10): Jaybin Hines scored a game and career-high 31 points, including five of his team’s eight points in the overtime, as the Warriors beat Logansport at the Berry Bowl Feb. 10.

Will Malchow and Ethan Burgess added nine points each. Burgess had Winamac’s only field goal in the overtime. He scored all of his points in the second half and overtime.

The game was tied at 31 at halftime. Winamac edged ahead 44-43 after three quarters. The game was tied at 53 after regulation.

Logansport did not make a 3-pointer.

Winamac beat Logansport for the first time since February 2009.

Brayden Thiele-Hahn scored five of his 18 points in the overtime for Rossville. Aiden Schaumburg hit three 3-pointers and added 15.

Winamac trailed 39-28 after three quarters but outscored the Hornets 13-2 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The rally included a 3-pointer from Potthoff and a 3-point play from Jaybin Hines.

Rossville then outscored Winamac 15-2 in the overtime.
