Argos senior post player Lizzy Edmonds has signed with Holy Cross College to continue her academic and basketball careers.
The 6-0 Edmonds averaged 9.6 points per game as a junior for Argos in 2020-21. She led the Lady Dragons in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Edmonds said she visited 10 different schools during spring break before deciding on Holy Cross.
“I just really loved the feel of Holy Cross,” Edmonds said. “It’s a nice, small school coming where I come from. … It has a nice family environment, and of course, the scholarship doesn’t hurt.”
Edmonds said playing college basketball was always a dream. She said it was her sophomore year when she realized she could actually do it.
“It was work and just confidence in my ability and then gelling with the players that I played with,” Edmonds said. “I was growing up watching them play and kind of being intimidated a little bit, but then I realized I could play with them, and we all gelled, and it was good.”
Lizzy grew up around the game. Scott Jennings, her current coach, was the leading scorer on the 1982 Argos team that went 18-5. Kip Edmonds, Lizzy’s father, was the second leading scorer on that team. Kim Edmonds, Lizzy’s uncle and Kip’s twin brother, was the third leading scorer.
Sam Edmonds, a 2011 Argos grad, is Lizzy’s older brother, and he also played for the Dragons.
“I remember being 4 years old at games coloring on the back of popcorn boxes and stuff and watching the game,” Lizzy said. “So it’s been a big part of my life.”
Holy Cross is an NAIA school located in St. Joseph County. Coach Tom Robbins is the former girls basketball coach at North Miami and the former boys basketball coach at Wabash. He is also the former women’s basketball coach at Ancilla College.
Edmonds is the daughter of Kip and Sarah Edmonds of Argos.
