Boys basketball

Argos hired Nick Kindig as its new boys basketball coach at a school board meeting Monday.

This is the first head coaching job for Kindig, a 2013 Tippecanoe Valley grad who spent the previous two seasons as the JV coach at Triton. Kindig had also been an assistant at Valley.

Kindig scored over 1,250 career points at Valley and then later played both tennis and basketball at Bethel University in Mishawaka. He was the leading scorer on Valley’s 2013 sectional championship team, where he averaged 18.7 points per game.

Kindig’s high school coach was Bill Patrick, an Indiana Basketball Hall of Famer. His college coach was Mike Lightfoot, an NAIA Hall of Famer and Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Medal winner.

Kindig’s father is Chris Kindig, who was the Valley girls coach from 2010-24.

Kindig replaces Jason Breden, who left to take the boys basketball coaching position at Knox on June 3.

Sean Richard, who led the team in scoring and assists, graduated, but the other four starters in its sectional quarterfinal loss to Westville are expected to return – guards Kenyan Beldon and Zhayne Hellums, forward Hayden Hensler and forward-center Luke Stults.

Argos is leaving the Hoosier Plains Conference and joining the Hoosier North for the 2024-25 school year.

They were assigned to Class 1A, Sectional 51, which also includes Culver, Elkhart Christian, North Judson, Oregon-Davis, South Central (Union Mills), Trinity Greenlawn and Triton.
