Argos moves up to No. 1: The Argos boys soccer team moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 in this week’s Class 1A coaches poll.

It marks the first time in school history that Argos, the defending Class 1A state champs, has been ranked No. 1.

Lakewood Park, whom Argos beat in last year’s semistate, is No. 2. Indianapolis Lutheran, last year’s state runner-up, is No. 9.

Argos is the only Sectional 36 team that is ranked.

Tippecanoe Valley 9, North Miami 1 (Tuesday): Caleb Petgen, Jon Ruiz and Christian Ramirez each had a hat trick for Valley in a home Three Rivers Conference win over North Miami Tuesday.

Petgen, Ruiz and Ramirez each scored once in the first half and twice in the second half.

“Arturo Dominguez again was a dominant force defensively and added two assists on the night,” Valley coach Andrew Luce said in a statement. “Jessica Brito, Jesus Baca and David Reyes played solidly on the back line and goalie Alexis Hernandez continued his excellent play.”

Luce also complimented freshman Gio Arriaga for his “great feel for the game” and said he has been an excellent addition on defense.

Valley led 3-0 at halftime.

Valley is 1-3-1. They travel to Culver on Monday.

North White 8, Caston 1 (Tuesday): Rowan Jellison scored the lone Caston goal in a loss to Class 1A, No. 20 North White Tuesday.

Bailey Zimpleman had 18 saves in goal for the Comets.

“We played a very tough team today in North White,” Caston coach Narciso Sanchez said. “They were good in every phase today. We had trouble finding any rhythm early, and their quick score put us in defensive mind frame seconds into the game.

“We had more success in the second half, but unfortunately didn't have enough to pull enough goals back to be competitive. We'll take the loss on the chin, and work to get better for our next game on Saturday.

Argos 10, South Bend Riley 0 (Saturday): Tomas Guitierrez had a hat trick, and Michael Richard, Sean Richard and Devon Allen added two goals each for the host Dragons in a win over South Bend Riley at Eugene Snyder Field Saturday.

Jake Stults also had a goal for Argos (6-1).

Michael Richard had three assists. Sean Richard, Cam Markley, Caden Nifong and Coleman Fishburn each had one assist.

Argos had a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. Kurt Johnson had one save for the shutout.

Winamac 5, North Miami 0 (Sept. 3): Alex Stark, Jason Tankersley, Jacob Housinger, Hunter Browning and Sawyer DePoy each had a goal for Winamac in a win over sectional rival North Miami Sept. 3.

Max Murray had two saves for the shutout.

Winamac had a 22-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Winamac (2-3) has exceeded last year’s win total.
