Argos softball pulls away in 7th, beats Culver

Softball

Argos 14, Culver 7 (Tuesday): Allison Zahm tripled twice and drove in three runs and also pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts for the visiting Lady Dragons in a win over sectional rival Culver.

Makena Lineberry had three singles, an RBI and three runs scored.

Carleigh Miller and Kadyn Baughman also had two hits and three RBIs each. Miller had two singles, and Baughman had a single and a double.

Lily McMillen tripled, walked three times, stole three bases and scored twice. Kara Sabanski had two hits and an RBI.

Kendra Burkholder had a walk and an RBI. Madisyn Barcus had a hit, a walk and a run scored. Brylee Elliott had a hit and a run scored.

Kaitlyn Kanschat had two of Culver’s five hits, including a triple. She also had two RBIs. Maegan Pearl, Marissa Milam and Jane Wright each had a single.

Milam, Kaylee Hamilton and Abbi Kisela each had an RBI.

Kaleigh Fritch allowed 14 hits and 10 earned runs. She walked seven and hit three batters and struck out four.

Culver scored five runs in the bottom of the third to cut into Argos’ 7-0 lead.

Argos led 8-7 going into the seven before scoring six times.

Argos improved to 1-1. Culver fell to 0-1.

Argos games against Career Academy canceled: The Argos softball games against South Bend Career Academy have been canceled due to South Bend Career Academy not having a team.

The teams were scheduled to play at South Bend Career Academy on May 19 and at Argos on May 21.

That leaves three softball teams in the Hoosier Plains Conference: Argos, Bethany Christian and Elkhart Christian.

Baseball

Kouts 16, Argos 1 (5 innings, Tuesday): Dylan Kindig, Jackson Kindig and Maddox Brady each had a hit for Argos in a season-opening road loss to Class 1A, No. 5 Kouts Tuesday.

Kurt Johnson walked and scored the lone run. Brady also walked.

Dylan Kindig gave up eight hits and 11 runs and took the loss. Kole Burkholder gave up five hits and five runs in relief.

Westville at Argos, canceled: The Westville-Argos baseball game scheduled for Wednesday was canceled. No reason was given for the cancellation.
