The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Bremen man on gun and drug charges at a middle school wrestling tournament at the Rochester High School gym Saturday.

The incident began when Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy School Resource Officer Rick Utter was alerted of a loud noise from an individual in the audience, according to a statement.

Through an investigation it was determined that Scott Yeager, 44, was in possession of two loaded handguns inside his backpack. One of the handguns had a spent round still inside of the firearm.

“It was determined Yeager negligently discharged the firearm,” the statement added.

Further investigation found that Yeager was in possession of illegal narcotics and a knife.

Yeager was charged with four felonies – possession of a firearm on school property, criminal recklessness with a firearm, possession of cocaine and possession of methamphetamine.

He was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a knife on school property, both misdemeanors.

No one was injured. The tournament consisted of 11 teams.

“I applaud Deputy Rick Utter, Deputy Ryan Utter and Deputy Ryan Haney for their quick response in handling the situation,” Sheriff Travis Heishman said in the statement. “Through their swift control of the scene, no injuries were sustained, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.”
