Caston’s Dague, Culver’s Falk win Hoosier North titles, but Winamac wins team crown

Culver’s Owen Falk won the title at 126 pounds, and Caston’s Austin Dague won the title at 138 at the Hoosier North wrestling tournament at Triton Saturday.

Winamac won the conference title with 226.5 points, 1.5 points more than runner-up LaVille.

Pioneer was third with 191, Culver was seventh with 66.5, and Caston was eighth with 58.

Pioneer had no individual champions, but Tuff Uebler (120), Kevin Gluth (126), Brandon Sterrett (138), Eli Guffey (145), Eli Nicoll (152), Peyton Schnurpel (170) and Colton Baker (220) all finished second in their respective weight classes. Noah Van Meter (160) was third, and Terrick Smith (195) was fourth. Uebler, Gluth, Guffey and Van Meter are all freshmen.

Owen Falk went 3-0 with a technical fall and two falls on the day. He started with a 15-0 technical fall over North Judson’s Shane Arnett, pinned Winamac’s Noah Garner in 3:36 and then pinned Pioneer’s Gluth in 3:22 to improve to 18-11 on the season.

No other Culver wrestler reached a weight class final. Robert Evans (160) was fourth. Culver forfeited seven weight classes.

Dague, a senior, won all three of his matches by fall in the second period. He beat Winamav’s Trace O’Day in 3:16, Knox’s Nolyn Scarbrough in 3:02 and Pioneer’s Sterrett in 3:40 in the final.

Caston also forfeited seven weight classes.

Winamac had five individual champions, the most of any school. They included Eli Wildermuth (113), Austin Attinger (132), Tyler Tankersley (145), D.J. Depke (152) and Talen Garner (170). Wildermuth and Attinger are both sophomores who repeated from last year.

Winamac won its fifth straight team conference title.
