Compton scores 3 times, but Winamac drops 1A regional to Lafayette Central Catholic

Lafayette Central Catholic 37, Winamac 32 (Friday): Russell Compton scored three touchdowns, but the Winamac football team could not hold on to an early 12-0 lead and fell to visiting Lafayette Central Catholic in a Class 1A regional at Roudebush Field Friday.

Hayden Clark led Winamac with 77 yards rushing on 21 carries, and he also ran for a touchdown. Trent Fox had 45 yards on five carries, including a 31-yard touchdown, and he also had 72 yards receiving. Compton had 14 carries for 44 yards and two touchdowns, and he also threw for 243 yards.

Jaden Terry had five catches for 73 yards, and he also completed the only pass he threw for 23 yards.

Brayden Lynch added three catches for 40 yards. Shaun Pratt had a 42-yard reception, and Clark had a 39-yard reception.

Compton picked off Central Catholic quarterback Clark Barrett twice, one of which he returned 50 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

But Barrett also threw for 494 yards and four touchdowns. Owen Munn had 13 catches for 255 yards and two touchdowns, Ty Buche had seven catches for 81 yards and a touchdown, and Evan Dienhart had six catches for 96 yards and a score. Baylor Smith caught a 31-yard touchdown pass.

Central Catholic led 23-19 at halftime, and they never trailed in the second half.

Central Catholic (5-3) will play No. 1 South Adams in a semistate game this Friday. South Adams eliminated Southwood 48-35 in the other 1A north regional.

Winamac finished 7-3.
