Culver senior Shelby Olivarez signs with Manchester University to continue her academic and volleyball careers.
Culver senior Shelby Olivarez signed with Manchester University to continue her academic and volleyball careers Monday.
Olivarez, a libero, had 179 digs and a team-high 386 serves received for Culver last fall. Olivarez also plays for the Dunes Volleyball Club in LaPorte, and she said she realized she could play college volleyball during the club season prior to her final high school season.
She said club volleyball has developed her skill “to the next level no matter what I’m doing.”
She said she loved the close bond of playing at Culver.
“We’re like sisters on and off the court,” Olivarez said.
She said she picked Manchester because of its small size. Her cousin Destin Green, a 2023 Culver grad, is a member of the Manchester cross-country and track teams.
“Everyone there is so nice,” Olivarez said. “I’ve been there more than a couple times, so everyone was so nice there.”
Olivarez said she wants to major in communications with a minor in media and production. She said she wants to be a sports marketing manager.
“I want to be able to produce and help a sports team out,” Olivarez said.
