Geyer, Harris pitch combined no-hitter, help New Prairie past Valley in regional

Softball

New Prairie 16, Tippecanoe Valley 0 (5 innings, Tuesday): Ava Geyer and Ellie Harris pitched a combined no-hitter, and Geyer, Makayla Collins and Mackenzie Waltz all homered for the New Prairie softball team in a rout of visiting Valley in a Class 3A regional Tuesday.

Maddie Thompson and Molly Moriarty each drew a walk for Valley. Anna Shock and Abby Bowers each reached on an error.

Dalynne Bussard pitched the first 2 ⅓ innings for Valley and allowed five hits and nine runs (four earned). She walked four and struck out one.

Bowers relieved and allowed seven hits and seven runs (six earned) in 1 ⅔ innings.

No. 3 New Prairie scored six runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the second and third before scoring six in the fourth.

Geyer struck out 10 in 4 ⅓ innings.

Valley finishes 17-7. Their sectional crown was their first since 1992.

Valley graduating seniors include Madi Smith, Brittany Benn, Corinna Stiles, Moriarty and Bowers.

The Tippecanoe Valley softball team lost to New Prairie 16-0 in five innings in a Class 3A regional Tuesday. Valley finished 17-7 overall and 8-1 in the Three Rivers Conference. They won their first sectional title since 1992.
