Three days after losing to Northfield at the Three Rivers Conference tournament, the Rochester girls golf team beat the Lady Norse in a nine-hole match at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Tuesday.
RHS had a 199, Northfield had a 221, and Peru had a 234.
RHS senior Kristianna Lingenfelter took medalist honors with a 39. Karah Lingenfelter had a 49, Payton Moore had a 55, Kat Rensberger had a 56, and Delaney Barkman had a 66.
Kristianna Lingenfelter was playing for the first time since taking TRC medalist honors at Maple Grove Golf Course in Huntington. She wound up outsourcing Northfield’s all-TRC No. 1 player Ainsley Dale by seven strokes.
Lingenfelter parred Nos. 1 and 9, two notoriously difficult holes on the front nine at Round Barn.
“She’s been hitting the ball very well,” RHS coach Chad Thomas said. “Her back nine at TRC, she started to get some birdies going and gave her a confidence boost, and that carried over into today. Today was a good round for her and gives her a lot of momentum headed into sectionals.”
Karah Lingenfelter beat her Northfield playing partner, TRC runner-up Alex Cartwright, by 10 strokes.
Northfield was fourth at the TRC tournament, five shots better than fifth-place RHS.
This was a different story Tuesday.
“As far as Northfield goes and their score tonight, I would say it’s all due to the course,” Thomas said. “I know they have some girls that don't enjoy playing here, especially the front nine. So that’s a nice thing to have as far as a home course advantage for us. Because it is a tough front nine, and when kids come here, they dread playing it. They love playing the back instead.
“If we can take advantage of that and play well on our home course and use that to our advantage, that’s a good thing.”
