Rochester boys take 4th at Wawasee Holiday Invite

The Rochester boys basketball team went 0-2 and finished in fourth place at the four-team Wawasee Holiday Invitational at the Hardwood Teepee Dec. 29. They are 3-5 on the season.

They lost to Wawasee 62-40 in the first round and to Fort Wayne Dwenger 68-55 in the consolation game.

In the Wawasee game, Drew Bowers hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points, and Owen Prater added 10. Tanner Reinartz had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Rochester led 18-12 after one quarter but was held to four points in the second quarter. Wawasee led 32-22 at halftime and 48-33 after three quarters.

Wawasee hit 14 3-pointers. Maddux Everingham hit four 3-pointers and led with 19 points, and twin brother Myles Everingham hit five treys and scored 17. Nolan Holzwart added 14.

In the consolation game, the Zebras trimmed a 24-7 deficit after one quarter to 38-27 at halftime before Fort Wayne Dwenger pushed the lead back out to 62-42 after three quarters.

Reinartz tied with Bowers for team-high scoring honors with 14, and he also had a team-high seven rebounds. Bryce Baugher added 13 points.

Aslan Nolan hit three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points for Fort Wayne Dwenger. Caleb Lehrman added 16, Edward Miller had 12, and Ryan Groves had 10.

Fort Wayne Dwenger was coming off a 68-56 loss to Fort Wayne Wayne in the first round.

Fort Wayne Wayne then went on to beat Wawasee 62-60 in overtime in the championship game.
