Rochester boys tennis sweeps singles, beats Wabash 4-1

Boys tennis

Rochester 4, Wabash 1 (Sept. 7): Brock Bowers, Tanner Reinartz and Luke Hunting all won singles matches, and Robert Bozzo and Brayden Zink won at No. 1 doubles for the visiting Zebras (6-1 overall, 2-1 Three Rivers Conference) in a win over Wabash Sept. 7.

Bowers and Reinartz won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Hunting needed a third-set tiebreak to beat Eli Mattern, 6-0, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2).

Bozzo and Zink defeated Troy Guenin-Hodson and Cooper Long 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Dom Baker and Ashtron Coffman accounted for Wabash’s only point at No. 2 doubles in a three-set win over Jake Freeman and Brady Morgan.

Rochester won the JV match 3-2.

Wade Bowers (RHS) lost 8-0.

Harrison Dunwoody (RHS) won 8-3.

Ashton Musselman (RHS) won 8-5.

Jonah Kiser (RHS) lost 8-1.

Doubles

Hunter Kamp-Carter Merideth (RHS) won 8-5.

Peru 4, Rochester 1 (Sept. 1): Robert Bozzo and Brayden Zink won in three sets at No. 1 doubles, but visiting Peru snapped Rochester’s season-opening four-match winning streak at the RHS courts Sept. 1.

Brock Bowers lost at No. 1 singles, Tanner Reinartz lost at No. 2 singles, and Luke Hunting lost at No. 3 singles. All three singles matches went straight sets.

Jake Freeman and Brady Morgan lost in straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

Peru improved to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the Three Rivers Conference. They are the defending TRC champions and a four-time defending sectional champion.

Rochester fell to 4-1, 0-1.

Bozzo and Zink beat Jackson Boswell and Lucas Slagel 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 for the only Rochester point.

Rochester 4, North Judson 1 (Aug. 30): Brock Bowers pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 singles, and Tanner Reinartz and Luke Hunting also won at singles for the visiting Zebras in a win over sectional rival North Judson Aug. 30.

Robert Bozzo and Brayden Zink yielded just three games to Lucas Burkett and Damien Frasure at No. 1 doubles to account for the final Rochester point.

Jake Freeman and Brady Morgan lost in three sets at No. 2 doubles.

North Judson won the JV match 3-2.

Jonas Kiser (RHS) lost 4-0.

Hunter Kamp (RHS) lost 4-0.

Doubles

Wade Bowers-Harrison Dunwoody (RHS) won 6-5.

Drake Heishman-Lincoln Holder (RHS) won 6-3.

Rochester matches vs. LaVille, Maconaquah canceled: The Rochester boys tennis team’s matches against LaVille scheduled for Aug. 23 and Maconaquah scheduled for Aug. 24 were both canceled due to their opponents’ lack of numbers.

Rochester 5, Triton 0 (Aug. 18): Brock Bowers and Tanner Reinartz won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, and Luke Hunting and Brayden Zink won at No. 1 doubles for the Zebras in a season-opening win over Triton on Aug. 18.

Rochester also won the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles match due to Triton’s lack of numbers.

Rochester lost four games total in the three competitive matches.

Bowers has moved from No. 2 singles in 2021 to No. 1 singles this year. Reinartz is new to singles after playing No. 1 doubles last year.

Zink moves from No. 1 singles last year to No. 1 doubles this year.
