Boys tennis falls to Culver Academy in sectional final, but McCarter advances

Girls golf

Rochester senior Kristianna Lingenfelter shot an 89 in the first round of the IHSAA state finals at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel Friday.

She is tied for 64th in a field of 100 golfers.

Lingenfelter’s round included nine pars, three bogeys, five double-bogeys and a quadruple-bogey 7 on the par-3 sixth hole.

Evansville North’s Chloe Johnson shot a 73 and leads the tournament by one stroke.

Boys tennis

Culver Academy 4, RHS 1 (Friday): Grant McCarter won at No. 1 singles, but Culver Academy captured their 17th consecutive sectional title at the Knox sectional final Friday.

McCarter defeated Wyatt Stowe 6-4, 6-1. While the team’s season is over, McCarter will continue on in the individual singles state tournament next week. His opponent is to be determined.

RHS lost the other four matches in straight sets.

Brayden Zink lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to A.J. Bau. Zak Daake lost 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to Kaden Ginder.

Andrew Attinger and Lukas Burkett beat Brock Bowers and Kyle Reinartz 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Gavin Legac and Eric Materna knocked off Cody Smith and Drew Strasser 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

RHS finishes the season 4-7.

Culver Academy will play either Warsaw or Wawasee in the Peru regional semifinals on Tuesday.
