Smith scores 21, but Comets fall to Rossville

Girls basketball
Caston 52, Northfield 41 (Thursday): Freshman point guard Isabel Scales scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead the host Lady Comets past Northfield Thursday.
Maddi Smith added 11 points.
Scales made 20 of 30 free throws, including 13 for 19 in the fourth quarter. Her lone field

goal also came in the fourth quarter. Scales scored as many points as the entire Northfield team in the fourth quarter.
Smith went 5 for 5 from the line. Caston outscored Northfield, a defending Class 1A sectional champion, 27-4 from the line.
Emma Hoover had 13 points, and Kyra Kennedy added 12 for Northfield.
The game was a late addition to the schedule after North Judson was forced to postpone their game with Caston due to coronavirus concerns.
Caston led 23-16 at halftime.
Northfield won the JV game 50-26. Emma Kay led Caston with 13 points. Macee Hinderlider had four, and Alexa Finke, Kinzie Mollenkopf and Annie Harsh had three each. Mollenkopf also had four rebounds.

Caston JV wins Cass County Invite: The Caston JV girls basketball team won the Cass County Invitational for the second straight year with a 34-27 win over host Logansport on Dec. 5.
Emma Kay scored 13 points, and Mikayla Kinser had 10 points and eight rebounds. Macee Hinderlider had six points, and Alexa Finke added five.
Caston led 23-15 at halftime.
Boys basketball
Rossville 83, Caston 45 (Saturday): Sam Smith scored 21 points, and Kade Zeider hit three 3-pointers and added 11, but the visiting Comets (1-4) fell to Rossville Saturday.
Luke Meek led four players in double figures with 28 for the Hornets (4-1).
Rossville led 40-22 at halftime.
Rossville, the defending Class 2A, Sectional 38 champions, was a late addition to the Caston schedule after a game against Frontier was postponed.

Caston has not won the Cass County Invitational since 2004.

Knox 65, Caston 6 (Dec. 8): Caston lost a dual meet to host and conference rival Knox Dec. 8.
“We didn’t wrestle up to our potential tonight,” Caston coach Mark Evans said. “Levi Martin and Pete DuVall both wrestled really well. I’m really proud of their performances.”
