Spin, Rudicel lead Caston past Northfield

Boys basketball

Caston 42, Northfield 29 (Saturday): Joey Spin scored 15 points, and Bryce Rudicel added 13 to lead the visiting Comets past Northfield Saturday.

Kade Zeider added six, Sam Smith had five, and Jake Paschen had three.

Caston held Northfield to three points in the second quarter and two in the fourth quarter.

Caston won their eighth straight game to improve to 11-4. It’s their longest winning streak since an 11-game winning streak since the 2011-12 season.

Caston has exceeded last year’s win total of 10.

Northfield (3-12) lost their sixth straight game.

Caston 51, Culver 25 (Jan. 22): Isabel Scales scored 15 points, and Maddi Smith added 13 as the Lady Comets earned a Hoosier North road win over Culver on Jan. 22.

Scales added a team-high seven rebounds and four steals. Smith had six boards.

Caston led 34-17 at halftime.

Caston improved to 15-5, equaling their win total from last season.

Rose Peterson hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for Culver (4-14, 0-6).

Alexa Finke had four points and four rebounds, Emma Kay had three points, and Ann Ulerick and Annie Harsh had two points each.

The game was shortened to two quarters due to Carroll’s lack of numbers.

Caston 36, Culver 31 (JV, Jan. 22): Annie Harsh scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Caston JV girls in a road win over Culver on Jan. 22.

Macee Hinderlider had eight points, Alexa Finke had six, Emma Kay had four, and Maddie Sprow and Olivia Thomas had two each.

Finke also had 12 rebounds.
