Bremen 11, Pioneer 1 (6 innings, Wednesday): Caleb Sweet had a single and drove in Pioneer’s lone run in the fifth inning, but the Panthers lost to Bremen in a Class 2A, Sectional 36 quarterfinal at Wabash’s Chris Rood Field Wednesday.
Brenton Gaumer had a double, and Peyton Schnurpel had a single to account for Pioneer’s three hits.
Brayden Erickson started and pitched four innings for Pioneer. He gave up six hits and eight runs while walking one, hitting two batters and striking out three.
Schnurpel relieved and allowed one hit and three runs over two innings. He walked five and struck out three.
Pioneer committed five errors which led to five unearned runs for Bremen.
The Lions scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed. They scored a run in the second and four in the fourth to make it 8-0.
After Sweet’s RBI, Bremen responded with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Pioneer finished 15-12. They went 10-4 in the Hoosier North and finished in second place behind North Judson (12-2).
Graduating seniors included Owen Miller, Andrew Helton, Sweet, Michael Cearing, Derek Duncan, Brian Gluth, Jake Erickson, Thomas Cosgray, Nicholas Rottet, Eli Miller, Gaumer and Schnurpel.
Bremen will play LaVille in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday. LaVille beat Wabash 4-1 in Wednesday’s other quarterfinal.
