Tippecanoe Valley sophomore high jumper Eric Burke earned a regional callback and will advance with six other teammates to the regional.
Goshen will host the regional at 6 p.m. May 26.
Burke cleared 5-10 on his second attempt and finished fifth at the Plymouth sectional Thursday. Only the top three receive automatic regional berths, but Burke had one of the next four best performances among those who are in sectionals that feed into the regional.
The other feeder sectionals are Goshen, Kokomo and Penn.
Burke’s teammate Dawson Perkins cleared 6-3 to win his second straight sectional title. Perkins, an IU-East track recruit, finished seventh at the IHSAA state finals last year.
Burke and Pioneer’s Cayden Hill are the only RTC area athletes to receive a regional callback, and both received their callback in the high jump.
Meanwhile, Valley’s Wade Jones was scratched in the 100 meters. Jones, a sophomore, will still compete in the 200 meters and as part of Valley’s 4 x 100 relay team. Jones runs the anchor leg on the relay, which won the sectional title in a school-record 43.50 seconds.
Valley senior Rex Kirchenstien is the No. 3 seed in the 400 meters, senior Wade Melanson is the No. 4 seed in the shot put, and Perkins is the No. 4 seed in the high jump going into the regional.
The highest seeded Rochester athlete going into the regional is senior Zach Pickens, who is seeded No. 6 going into the 400.
