Thompson, Prater shoot personal bests as Lady Vikes improve score by 69 strokes from last year

Tippecanoe Valley freshman Savana Miller shot a 78 at the Warsaw sectional at Stonehenge Golf Club in Winona Lake Thursday to qualify for the regional as an individual.
The top three teams and top three individuals on non-advancing teams moved on.
Valley finished fourth in the team standings with a 420, but Miller’s 78 was the best of players on non-advancing teams. Bremen’s Samantha Ton and Wawasee’s Ava Couture both shot 97 and also advanced.
Other Valley scores included Maddie Thompson’s 100, Jenna Prater’s 120, Maris Overbey’s 122 and Lucy Hayden’s 127. Thompson and Prater both shot personal bests for 18 holes.
Valley was 10th with a 489 at last year’s sectional.
Culver, whose team consisted of Madison Beach, did not participate.
Warsaw won the sectional with a 335, and NorthWood (359) and Culver Academy (378) also advanced.
NorthWood’s Sophie Richmond shot a 71 and defeated Warsaw’s Abbey Peterson in a sudden death playoff for medalist honors.
Miller was the only other player in the field to break 80. She was one of only two players in the field – Peterson was the other – to birdie the par-4 first hole. She also had nine pars. She had no score worse than a bogey.
“Another amazing day on the course,” Valley coach Leslie Brouyette said in a statement.
East Noble will host the regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 27.
