Valley sports briefs: Bowers blanks Culver Academy

Tippecanoe Valley 16, Culver Academy 0 (5 innings, Tuesday): Freshman Maddie Thompson had three hits and four RBIs, and Abby Bowers pitched a three-hit shutout with two walks and six strikeouts for the Lady Vikings in a road win over Culver Academy Tuesday.

Brayden Baney and Madi Smith each added three hits as part of Valley’s 18-hit attack. Molly Moriarty doubled, homered and drove in two runs, and Macy Kirchenstien had two hits and an RBI, and Corinna Stiles also had two hits.

Mercedes Snapp, Olivia Wilson and Brittany Benn each had a hit and an RBI. Bowers also had an RBI.

Valley improved to 6-1 going into their game against conference and sectional rival Wabash at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Tippecanoe Valley 3, LaVille 2 (Tuesday): Lydia Miller and Madelyn Weaver won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and Brianna Feldman and Nataly Rodriguez won at No. 2 doubles for Valley in a win over host LaVille Tuesday.

Talia Holder lost in a third-set 10-point tiebreak at No. 2 singles, and Lily Ault and Andie Schwenger lost in straight sets at No. 1 doubles.

Miller and Weaver lost one game combined.

Valley is 2-0.

Valley also won the JV match 2-0.
