Emma Howdeshell doubled, tripled and homered and drove in five runs, and Kallie Watson and Keaton Doran also had three hits each, but the Rochester softball team lost to visiting Southwood 12-11 at Fansler Field Wednesday.
Southwood built a 10-0 lead after two innings and never trailed. Rochester trailed 12-6 going into the bottom of the sixth but scored four runs in that inning and another run in the seventh before Sydney Haughs grounded into a forceout to end the game.
Watson had two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Doran had three singles and two RBIs.
Emma Sells had two hits and two walks, drove in a run and scored three times. Freshmen Mia Howdeshell and Darah Strasser also had two hits each. Strasser scored two runs.
Rochester outhit Southwood 15-9, but three Rochester pitchers combined to walk 11 and hit three batters.
Strasser took the loss in the circle. She allowed five hits and 10 runs (all earned) in 1 ⅓ innings. She walked nine, hit three batters and struck out none.
Sells allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) in four innings of relief. She walked two and fanned none. Mia Howdeshell pitched the final 1 ⅔ innings and allowed no hits or runs. She walked none and struck out two.
Rochester dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Freshman catcher Rylee Thomas had two RBIs for Southwood. Kinsley Miller also drove in two runs.
Madi Culver allowed nine runs over five innings and got the win. Makenlie Lambert got the final six outs.
